Beth Leavel Shares Broadway Brilliance with Nyack Drama Students

Updated: Jan 28

What happens when you bring a Tony Award–winning Broadway legend into a room full of aspiring performers? Pure magic! Earlier this week, Nyack Middle School and High School drama students received the unforgettable opportunity to learn from the incredible Beth Leavel, known for her iconic roles in both The Prom and The Drowsy Chaperone.

The timing of Beth’s visit couldn’t have been more perfect. Our High School is gearing up to present The Prom, while our Middle School is taking on The Drowsy Chaperone—both shows that Beth has brought to life on Broadway. Throughout the master class, Beth shared behind-the-scenes stories from her remarkable career, offered up some impromptu dance moves, and fielded questions from starstruck students eager to follow in her footsteps.

One of the biggest highlights? Students got to hold Beth’s actual Tony Award, a tangible reminder that, with passion and hard work, dreams really can come true. She also met with the talented Nyack performers who will soon be stepping into her famous roles.

Reflecting on the experience, Beth said, “I am so thrilled that the two shows that are in town are The Prom and The Drowsy Chaperone. I’m getting ready to start another big show, and just to be here with this energy and enthusiasm fills my soul.”

Thank you, Beth, for inspiring Nyack’s next generation of actors. Your visit was a once-in-a-lifetime experience—one that left our students energized, uplifted, and more determined than ever to bring theater magic to our community. We can’t wait to see how your influence shines through in our upcoming productions!
